Description

Winner of the Academy Award® for Best Actress, Dame Helen Mirren gives a spellbinding performance in The Queen, the provocative story behind one of the most public tragedies of our time - the sudden death of Princess Diana. In the wake of Diana's death, the very private and tradition-bound Queen Elizabeth II (Mirren) finds herself in conflict with the new Prime Minister, the slickly modern and image-conscious Tony Blair. The Queen, also starring Academy Award® nominee James Cromwell (Best Supporting Actor, Babe, 1995), takes you inside the private chambers of the Royal Family and the British government for a captivating look at a vulnerable human being in her darkest hour, as a nation grieving for its People's Princess waits to see what its leaders will do. Suspenseful, heartfelt and riveting, it's a fascinating story you won't soon forget.

Helen Mirren absolutely deserved that Oscar as she was the embodiment of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd.

I absolutely adore this movie. The cast all give excellent performances and the screen play is fantastic. One thing I did not enjoy was some of the anti-monarchist sentiment certain characters expressed throughout the film. It made me cringe, and I'm American. Some of these expressions of disloyalty and traitorous views on the crown were necessary to the plot and so, while uncomfortable, they were necessary.

Wish there were more biopic movies about the monarch.

I enjoyed the film….I adore anything ‘English’ and this was no exception. However, I do have a problem with the way the writers depicted the emotions/feelings of the Royal Family. It’s obvious that this film was hell bent on making them out to be insensitive and cruel. Do I believe there was friction between Charles and Diana…absolutely. But! I don’t believe the Queen, her husband, or her mother spoke about Diana the way they do in this movie. I don’t like the way the writers negatively twisted what they ‘thought’ was going on behind palace doors. There is no way the writers knew what was said privately between each of the Royals yet decided their ‘duty’ was to make the Royals out as heartless humans…..to somehow hurt the character of the Royals to benefit who?…... the labor party?…..is that it? at any rate….. This is a good movie although not based on fact but based on a writer’s point of view….a view that wants to believe the worse in another.

Love the movie, watched it two or three times now. My only complaint is where's the soundtrack?

Helen Mirren is much like Daniel Day-Lewis in that she completely inhabits her character. She becomes the Queen in this movie and assuming most of it is based on speculation you still get a perspective of what life was like for the royal family inside palace walls. I watch this every time it's on because of her performance.

The 3 stars are for the scenery, not the movie. I was highly disappointed in this flick. I thought that with all the great reviews it would be somewhat special. I was so wrong. I found it disheartening, self serving and A callous Representation of what "might" have gone on behind closed doors. I do agree the Monarchy is set in its ways- but not as cruel as portrayed in this movie. I don't recommend it at all. 😔

Set in the aftermath of Diana’s death, The Queen is gritty, heart-wrenching, and nonetheless dazzling as the Monarch comes to terms with her people’s grief and imperial tradition following the death of the former Princess of Wales.
