Description

The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg – finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic “The BFG” to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s “The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows, but Sophie’s presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see the Queen (Penelope Wilton) and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary (Rebecca Hall), that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.

Really a very boring movie. Tried to watch it in the theater with my kids and then tried at home off of iTunes. Could not keep my eyes open. There's more to making a good movie than CGI.

This was 1 of my all time favorite books as a child and I'm so happy to see the movie came out as good as it did. I admit I can't remember the plot well enough to know how well it matches, but it has all the magic and humor. The casting of Mark Rylance as the BFG could not have been better - I loved him from the first moment.

I had recently watched the SPIELBERG documentary on HBO and this is one of two of his films I’ve never seen. I was hesitant to buy it , but since I’m a fan of Spielberg’s films I’d give it a try. Glad I did!! Visually amazing, good actors, and of coarse Spielberg’s direction. This may not be for everyone, but I did enjoy it. Didn’t do well at the box office, but you should rent first possibly before buying.

Stop hating on this movie 🍿! This is one of the most underrated Disney movies 🎥 created . I loved this movie , it is full of magic and some funny scenes . This movie is way far from boring! The BFG and the little girl have a likable relationship together, unless they did not start any romance or sex. I read the book before and loved it ! I wish they had added some scenes from the book but still this is a decent movie to watch.

If only BFG is a real living creature, I swear I won't hesitate to visit him.

A very heartwarming story of an orphan girl meeting somebody who relates to her situation. CGI effects are brilliant and believable. Story is somewhat simple but heartfelt and very funny. Acting was great, and Mark Rylance and Jemaine Clement were amazing at voicing their characters. Mark Rylance gave a perfect tone and voice to the BFG, and Jemaine Clement gave Fleshlumpeater a menacing but also balanced voice. And Spielberg did a wonderful job directing. This movie is great, funny, and perfect for the whole family
