Description

“Flesh and Bone” follows a young ballet dancer, Claire, who has a distinctly troubled past, as she joins a prestigious ballet company in New York. The dark, gritty, complex series unflinchingly explores the dysfunction and glamour of the ballet world and New York’s inherent drama. Claire is emotionally wounded, sexually damaged, and possesses self-destructive tendencies amid her vaulting ambitions. She is a transcendent ballerina, but her inner torment and aspirations drive her in compelling, unforeseeable ways, especially when confronted with the machinations of the company’s mercurial Artistic Director, and an unwelcome visitor from her past.

I got the impression that this series would be about dancing for the most part—honing one’s craft, competing, etc. Having admired such films as The Company and Black Swan, I really did expect that the tough world of ballet would be a strong element of this series. But it’s about girls and sex or boys and sex, both hetero- and homosexual sex. Starz does that with its series (Boss, Power), fills every other scene with mad humping. I just couldn’t take it after the fourth episode.

Imagine a world where every little taste of cheesecake you put in you mouth you first thought would be go to the ladies room and prayer to the porcelain God. Mothers with daughters reading imagine your baby girls down to one or two periods a year. Before those first teeny tiny pair a satin ribboned ballet shoes....why didn't you but tap shoes instead? A stage full of frothy tutus with girl ranlike qualities all wearing crowns is every little girls dream or if she keeps it up, becomes very good, she could find herself in the same Shakespearian tragedy. Didn't the episode titles comparing each episode to the skill learned in warfare, leaving out the human traffic icing I think this was was a bit of an overage exaggeration but not much. It's a cut throat industry where only the strong survive. FLESH AND BONE WAS THE BEST 8 hours of television aired during all of 2015

I seriously enjoyed this show. Its a television drama that takes place in the ballet world. I watched it because I wanted to see great dancing — and that is definitely here — but the show is about so much more than that. It follows a girl named Claire — played by ballerina Sarah Hay, who is a REVELATION in this — as she joins a ballet company after having taken time off from dancing. There she deals with the pressure, confusion & jealousy that come with being singled out by the company’s artistic director — all while trying to escape the darkness of her life before.

Bold, original, intense. Not for the simple, light-hearted, superficially dramatic -romantic types perusing for a light TV drama with...oh yeah!... incredibly talented dancing! This TV series is a darkly cruel and revealing drama addressing multiple complexing psychological torments and ideations...engulfing you. Throughout every addicting episode, sex-crazed,self-indulgent egos place the protagonist and fellow key characters in overwhelmingly stressed situations, the audience can 'feel' the heavy setting- the thickest smog of competition, torment, and self-doubt, you will ever feel in a TV drama to date. Best of luck, and know you're not alone in watching :)
  • Rather Dark but Good

It is well made. Rather dark as this is a field where there is little happiness to be found because of the fierce competition, hunger and grueling hard work.
